What Is An Hvac System?

An HVAC system is a mechanical and electrical system that circulates air in, around, and through a building. It provides thermal comfort, protects property from the elements, and can save on energy costs. HVAC systems can be divided into two categories: outdoor systems and indoor systems. Outdoor systems include air conditioning and heating units installed in public spaces such as malls or offices. Indoor systems circulate air within buildings through registers, ducts, fan coils, and other components.

An HVAC system works by moving air through the system to warm or cool various areas in a building. The main components of an HVAC system are the heating and cooling coils, registers, fans, and ductwork.

Heating coils use electricity to heat air. Cooling coils use electricity to cool air. Air is drawn into the coil from the outside environment, heated up, and then forced out of the coil. The fan pulls the heated and cooled air through the ductwork to different rooms in the building.

The registers take the heat from the heating coils and send it to specific areas in a building. The ductwork directs this heat where it is needed most. The fans move this heated air around so that it can be distributed evenly throughout a room or area.
